The warm and rustic villas. The famous, tall trees of cypress. The sparkling Mediterranean Sea. This romantic evening is filled with everything we like about Spanish wedding destinations.
Alexandra Matthew Barcelona’s wedding is filled with romance (there’s an explanation for why we planned this breathtaking scene on Valentine’s Day!). “Red is the color of passion, so we aimed to include plenty of reds, burgundies, and pinks of various shades in the flowers & decor,” says the bride Alexandra. We love it when our wedding couples incorporate color and florals carefully in their design. And the red hues are a perfect fit for the romantic Spanish ambiance.
We’re delighted whenever we can praise a Galia Lahav real bride (no shame, we’re entirely Galia Lahav fans in this area!) Alexandra shares the ultimate wedding-related story of shopping, which BM stylist Christina constantly tries to teach brides – allow yourself to try on and be amazed by gowns you’d never imagined wearing. Alexandra was shopping for a chic sheath gown and was instantly captivated by this gorgeous ball gown perfectly fitting the fairytale romance.
Our Love Story
Alexandra, The story goes like this: I was bartending at The late NYC nightclub Output one night when a strikingly handsome gentleman requested a drink from me. Each time he entered the bar, he stared at me with the sweetest eyes and brightest smile; however, for me, he was trying to appear considerate to “not hit on the bartender.”
When he returned for the third time, he sat his chin on his hands, let out a massive wink, and then asked, “Can I get a-” When I stepped in and said, “Would you like to have an evening date with me? !” The rest is the story; we’ve been together for over seven years.
The Dress
For my dress, I’ve been a big lover of Galia Lahav’s for a long time and even was shopping for a slim-fit sheath dress. When I first looked at this dress, Aelin’s stunning sparkling, glittering, sequins-covered ball gown, it was hard to imagine myself in anything else. I’m a music enthusiast, So the choice of music was a huge factor.
The Destination & Design
The concept behind our wedding was Spain and Barcelona’s beauty and romantic appeal. It’s the color associated with love, and we wanted to use lots of burgundies, reds, and pinks in various shades in our flowers and decor. I’ve always been a fan of dramatic style and prefer a dark style which is why we adorned the venue for the wedding with lots of candles that created a romantic, intimate, romantic vibe.
The Photography
My wedding coordinator, Jennifer, offered a few ideas for wedding photographers, and Andrea’s portfolio Ferrara impressed me. I thought he might be the photographer to capture my vision, and he was not disappointed!
The videographer was someone that the photographer had worked with previously, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice since they were able to work together and produce one of the most beautiful images I’ve ever seen (though I could be biased)!
The Planning
Since I am presently studying to complete the Masters in Chinese Medicine, hiring a planner was the best choice I could have made. Jennifer May of Crystal Events Barcelona was a lifesaver, and I would not have managed this wedding without her.
On the day of your wedding, make sure to breathe. It’s almost impossible for everything to go according to plan. Don’t stress about the little things; just become like the water, enjoy the waves, and have fun on the day of your wedding!
