Are you considering a boudoir shoot?
You can capture the moment before your wedding when you feel like a total babe. You’re in love and excited for months and years to come.
This is a great gift to give your groom at your wedding.
You’ll be so happy you captured it, regardless of how insecure you feel now.
It would be best if you had a lot more confidence than you think to strip off to your (pretty, new pink satin!) It takes a lot of confidence to strip down to your (pretty new pink satin!)
You place a lot of trust in your photographer, and as with any photo shoot, it can turn out utterly beautiful or a little cheesy/tacky/unflattering.
The lovely Bene Eaton gave us some tips last year on how to dress for a classy and romantic boudoir photo shoot.
We thought it was time to revisit all things boudoir and asked a professional for her best tips.
Enter Julie Michaelsen, a talented wedding photographer in the UK who is known for her ability to create fun, sweet, and candidly sexy Boudoir Shoots.
We knew that when we saw this photo shoot, which Julie Michaelsen did with Pompadour Lingerie Westwood Design and portraits in collaboration with Pompadour Lingerie, we were the right people to ask what makes for a chic boudoir session.
Preparing in advance will make your day run more smoothly. From your pre-shoot skincare regime to working with professionals you admire to the bombshell lingerie or romantic accessories that ease you into your shoot, everything is possible.
You should make sure that the photographer captures a boudoir in the style you prefer.
It may seem obvious, but it is important to look at your photographer’s portfolio and, even better, talk with them about the style they use.
The boudoir style is vastly different. If you are looking for soft, gentle images that suggest you, but your photographer specializes in vintage burlesque, you might not be the right fit.
A good idea is to ask about the degree of Photoshop used. Mixing up your editing style with the photographer can cause disappointment.
Invest in New Lingerie
This is a great excuse to revamp your lingerie.
It’s the perfect time to get rid of your old lingerie and replace it with new ones for your newlywed life! You can also invest in at least three or four sets of beautiful lingerie and nightgowns.
You will feel beautiful and elegant on your wedding day. Confidence is key to a successful photo shoot. Many factors, including your photographer, outfits, and hair and makeup, influence this!
These investments can also be used as little surprises on your honeymoon for your husband.
I recommend investing in a silk dressing gown that you can wear while your hair is done and makeup is applied. You can also start taking photos to warm up before you do the lingerie shoots.
Ask Your Photographer about Props
Ask your photographer for props if you are nervous before the shoot.
Women feel more comfortable with something they can do with their hands. I recommend a bouquet, something loose that you can hold.
Using your veil also creates beautiful images and gives you a bit of cover, making the photos suggestive instead of overt.
You can also use your husband’s shirt teamed up with your sexy underwear. Elegantly teased hair, makeup, and your husband’s shirt will create a sensual image.
Get a Glam Squad
I tell all my boudoir girls that professional hair and makeup are a necessity. It also boosts your confidence, which is key to a successful photo shoot.
Professional hair and makeup artists know how important it is to have good makeup on camera.
Hair and makeup artists are essential to the wedding photographer.
Prettiness Prep
Prepare your body and face before you shoot a close-up. Avoid alcohol in the days leading up to your shoot. Alcohol can dry out the skin and increase redness.
Avoid fake tanning, as it is difficult to remove orange marks from photos. Also, get plenty of sleep the night before!
Bonus Tip: Prepare Your Poses
Check out gorgeous shoots such as this before you book your boudoir session. You may feel a little nervous. You’ll be glad that you did.
You may not know the best way to pose for a photo. Pin your favorite shots (especially those you think will look great) so that you can have a variety of options when you are ready to start shooting!
