Create a Creative and Crafty Engagement Shoot at Home

Alicia and Eddie make a very talented couple.

The couple spent a lot of time and effort creating a home that reflects their personality. It’s full of adorable DIY touches. (Wait until you see the photo wall!) Vintage and thrifted finds.

Where better than the place that they love to be photographed for their engagement?

Who better than Sarah from Hazelwood Photo to take the photos? It’s a photographer’s dream to have such beautiful, colorful, and creative images.

The engagement shoot began with a breakfast of pancakes in the kitchen, with their adorable dog, Libby, watching enviously. It ended with a little antique hunting in their Portland neighborhood.

Eddie & I decided to shoot our engagement photos at home.

We had been dating for almost three years prior to moving in together. We have spent a lot of time making the apartment reflect us. We got engaged in our kitchen (yes, with our dog Libby right next to us). We spent most of the time there, and after only eight months, we already have many fond memories.

We are very artistic people if you didn’t know. Eddie jokes that if I had 10 minutes, I could make anything.

The majority of art in our apartment was either handmade or found. Eddie is the only one who created our wall of pictures in the kitchen. We hung it with him. He designed it. We bought fabric from our favorite fabric shop in Alberta in Portland and used it to embellish the embroidery hoops that I had found at $1 each while out antique hunting.

My stepfather Jay made our headboard by hand. It is probably our favorite piece of furniture in the home. The materials cost $60.00, it took 2 hours and lots of love. It and our matching nightstands were stained by me. It’s my most prized possession, and I want it to be in our family forever.

We designed our home with love in mind, so we thought it would be the perfect backdrop for our pictures. Eddie and I were friends in middle school when we were both 12 years old. Since then, we’ve only been friends, but not more. It wasn’t until August 2009, when we were both at a friend’s birthday party, that I announced we would kiss.

It’s a sure thing that the wedding will be a vintage-inspired, craft-led design fest!

This shoot has been a real pleasure to feature today. Many thanks to Alicia, Eddie, and Hazelwood Photo, who shared their love and creativity with us.
