Elegant English Weddings with a Touch of Whimsy

We’re more than excited to share this beautiful wedding with you today.

Liat & Ed were married in one of the most beautiful English wedding venues ( Aynhoe Park), and their special day was captured (by a photographer we have been big fans!) Sarah Gawler has been a fan of ours for many years.

Aynhoe Park in Oxfordshire is a beautiful country house venue that is both elegant and eccentric. (Check out the shoot we featured last season) This was perfect for this couple, who wanted something natural, light, and outdoorsy.

Liat & Ed, with the help of Nerissa & Eden, and Euphoric Flower, created a fun and pretty day with lots of personal touches.

The pink and green colors of the Geronimo balloons, berries, and blooms were accented by keys and apples to create a mismatched, quirky look. Special tributes were paid to those who couldn’t be there, as well as the women from Liat & Ed’s families.

This wedding has a classic style, an unusual venue, creative décor, and a beautiful service. It is a great example of how you can have a celebration that is elegant yet full of personality!

Our Love Story

Since we have been together, we met at London Zoo, at a birthday party of a mutual friend. We went on our very first date the following week.

A couple of friends still insist it was a set-up…

What would you say about our wedding in three words or less? Elegant, natural and light-filled.

The Inspiration

If we could have, we would’ve married in the forest.

Due to the British weather, we kept everything as light, airy, and natural as possible. This included the venue, the colors, and the decor.

The Attire

My dress was a beautiful gown by Suzanne Neville with a lace overlay. My maids were dressed in blush chiffon dresses from Coast. Flowers included dahlias, roses, and hydrangeas.

Ed wore a suit custom-made by London, and his groomsmen were dressed in navy suits and blush pocket squares.

The Venue

This was not a traditional hotel. We wanted a place where we and our family could stay and have everyone come back for games and a picnic the next day. Country hotels are usually stuffy and old-fashioned.

We wanted a place that was fun, unique, and in the country with a boutiquey feeling. Taxidermy polar bears and giant statues on the outside were enough to make us happy.

Because we wanted a lot of light and a place that was bright, the Georgian-style house was the perfect choice. It would also be a great option if the weather forced us to marry indoors.

The orangery, with its large windows and white statues, was the perfect place for this.

The Ceremony

A celebrant married us. We were able to have our say on the readings, the wording – in fact, everything.

She is a resident of my hometown, Henley. We could talk to her about the wedding before it happened. This option would not be available if you were planning a non-religious ceremony and opted for a registrar.

The words were very personal. The sun shone brightly as we said our vows. I didn’t notice it at the time, but everyone noted it, and can be seen in the photos.

Favorite Moments

The ceremony was a highlight of the day. We couldn’t put chairs on the lawn because it rained in the morning. Otherwise, they would sink into the earth.

I insisted on having the ceremony outside despite a lot of advice. It turned out to be really special. Everyone stood up and gathered together during the ceremony.

It ended up feeling like the wedding I had always imagined – casual, on the beach or in the woods, with our closest family and friends.

I was terrified to give a speech, just like my father, but it was good to be able to tell my family and friends how important it is to have them here and how much Ed means to me.

The Music

A duo played swing/jazz on violins during the drinks reception and wedding procession. In the evening, we had a DJ and a live band.

The first dance we did was Ho Hey, by the Lumineers. We weren’t particularly graceful dancers. In the chorus, we may have jumped a lot. But we still had fun.
