Glamorous Gatsby-Inspired Lake House Wedding

You’ve probably noticed by now that I’m always talking about weddings in the backyard (guys, I’m in love!). Although they’re usually informal affairs that include barbecues and boho-chic vibes tod, ay’s lake wedding at home is an event that’s elegant, stylish, and romantic.

Tara and Brandon are a couple who love fitness who first met in the fitness center (it became love at first sight to Brandon! ) and became a couple over common interests as well as their adorable dog Tulee!

Their wedding on the beautiful Lake Oswego in Oregon (which seems like the setting for a Wes Anderson movie) was inspired by a totally different film called The Great Gatsby. The wedding was a Hollywood-style affair with chandeliers hanging over the ceiling, gorgeous gold accents, gorgeous food, and bubbly flowing.

With stunning photography from Jamie Rae Photo with the help of a variety of talented family and friends, Be inspired by Brandon and Tara’s gorgeous lakeside soiree.

Our Wedding

The inspiration for our wedding was “an older Hollywood romantic love tale’. It was timeless, elegant, and romantic.

Before Brandon proposed, we were on a boat trip along Lake Oswego, and I was thinking about my wedding. I had recently seen The Great Gatsby; I was awed by the fashion, style, and ambiance of the 1920s, and that’s what we aimed to recreate at our wedding.

The rose gold and blush accents were scattered throughout the wedding, as did light fixtures and chandeliers that were custom-designed, making the wedding look like a dream.

Beyond enjoying our day and having fun, we were hoping that our guests would have an unforgettable night, much like the 1920s roaring parties that were featured in The Great Gatsby.

The Photography & Videography

The first vendor we employed was our photographer, Jamie Rae. Her photography conveys a timeless elegance and romanticism that the contemporary world has lost.

The love we shared is eternal, and this is exactly the kind of story we wanted to tell in our photographs. Jamie has done an amazing job, and we are thrilled with the photos.

Videographer Jason Tamimi is a professional filmmaker who is a future Sundance Film Award winner – Jason Tamimi is a dear friend of the couple. He does not usually do weddings, but he made an exception for us.

The wedding video he made is an awe-inspiring and unimaginable experience. The video has seven chapters that perfectly capture the wedding day (getting ready, the first look and the ceremony, a boat cruise toasts/first dances and party, as well as a sending-off).

The chapter we love the most includes the black-and-white video that he took of us during the boat ride, with an amazing Frank Sinatra song in the background.

Favourite Details

A majority of the “vendors” are actually close personal acquaintances who are extremely gifted (lucky for us).

The flower bouquets, flower girl baskets, headbands, cakes, video printing, photography, and decorations are the genius work of our wonderful family and friends.

Tara delighted Brandon with a cake for the groom that was shaped like the OSU beaver’s headgear (which Brandon wears every single day of his life. Go beavers!)

The couple also brought their pet, Tulee Doodle Doo, as part of the wedding celebration. The bride wore a blush and ivory rose collar and put on a gro-pro to her back to shoot the wedding film!
