How to Choose a Wedding Ceremony Venue

It doesn’t matter if it’s something you have envisioned all your life or if you’re starting to think about it, choosing the right place to say “I do” is an important decision. Tanya Bywater discusses what couples should consider when selecting the right setting for their wedding ceremony.

After the question has been asked and answered and the ring is on the finger, the next question everyone will be asking is, “Where?”

Even if you think that you know the place or have been looking for it for years, you should take a deep breath and consider the following advice to ensure all your needs and those of your guests are met.

Establish Your Style

Regardless of your style, whether you are a laissez-faire type or a traditionalist, consider the venues that best suit your needs. You’ll narrow your choices by determining whether you prefer a formal or casual setting.

Balance your Budget

Although it is boring, it is also necessary. It’s not worth spending your heart on a venue you can’t afford. Be realistic. Be sure to ask about the inclusions. Do you have to furnish the space? Are all the necessary items provided?

Think Timing

Although you don’t have to set a date at this stage, it can help to know the months, seasons, and times of year you prefer. You can choose a date that is more convenient for you if the venue has limited availability.

Count Your Guests

Although you don’t necessarily need to know the exact number of guests, it will be helpful to know how many you will likely invite. While a small and intimate venue might be a good choice for smaller groups, you will need enough space to accommodate larger groups.

Weigh the Weather

Even the most organized wedding planner cannot control the weather. So, enjoy the glorious sunshine and make sure there is a plan for inclement weather. When choosing a venue, think about the comfort of your guests. A sunny location on a hot summer’s day or a warm mid-winter spot could distract from your ceremony.

Practical

Consider the location of the ceremony in relation to the reception, photos, and other events. Can your guests travel between the ceremony, photo locations, and reception venue? Do you prefer a location that has all of these features, or even guest accommodation?

Do Your Research
