Monstera Leaf Love: A Non-Traditional Slovenian Wedding

Brides who don’t have traditional weddings are in heaven! Slovenian bride Katjusa is showing us how you can be yourself as a bride and have a celebration that best reflects your passion (and perhaps, for boho brides, why not decorate it with the monstera leaves?)

The ability to identify oneself is an empowering factor – especially in wedding planning. Katjusa was aware that she wasn’t the traditional bride. In lieu of the traditional salon, she found her ideal gown and designer on the internet from Australia.

Imagine the beauty of a bride who has dreams; she will not ever settle for anything less than authentic style. The dress flew to New Zealand to meet her travel buddy. Finally, Katjusa’s dream KWH gown (super elegant bridal ensembles!) arrived in Slovenia in time for a private, boho wedding.

What a beautiful wedding it was! Organic, intimate, and with plenty of greenery, as well as olive-green bridesmaids even from afar, you can discern that the marriage was “them.” Even the images were not your usual wedding photos, featuring gorgeous and dark hues from the amazing Ajosa Videtic.

Our Love Story

We met during our high school days. He would often go into the gymnasium with buddies to watch us play volleyball. He caught my attention with his loud cheering, which was very annoying, but boys are always boys.

Since we were in the same area of the city, we often were in the same place on the street or when I went to have a night out. There was something special about his personality, but since I wasn’t certain what that was, I decided that I didn’t care about the guy at all.

On a nice evening, I went out for a night of fun with my friends, and we got together again. There was something unique about him, and I thought to myself that I must give him a shot. From that moment on, we’ve become a couple.

The Dress

I envisioned myself as an unconventional bride. I wanted to avoid the bridal boutiques or dealers, so I started seeking out a gown on the internet after I discovered Karen Willis Holmes gowns.

I instantly fell in with it. The dress was absolutely beautiful (you are aware of this when you’re a potential bride!) I was in love with the gown and nothing else. It took me a long time to come up with a strategy for how I could get my dream gown, but ultimately, I got it.

From Australia, The dress was shipped from Australia to New Zealand, where my dear friend was a frequent traveler. The gown was purchased out of the Bride Space shop in Christchurch and sent back to Slovenia. My wedding gown traveled around the world for almost half a century.

The Venue

The Villa Fabiani is hidden in our gorgeous country, Slovenia. It is situated in a tiny town called Kobdilj, located in the middle of the gorgeous Kras (Karst).

We were looking for a peaceful and private space away from the hustle and bustle of people. Villa Fabiani is definitely more than this. It’s a location that possesses a spirit, beauty, and history. When we visited the venue for the first time, we instantly knew it was the place for us. A wonderful and memorable location.

We wanted to have a simple, intimate, small, intimate wedding that was attended by close family members as well as our closest friends. We enjoyed the day to be relaxed, stress-free, and full of fun. I believe we achieved that. Because of the ever-changing weather, we needed to set up the wedding location inside the venue, and I have to admit, it was a lot better than the exterior. We wanted a boho, green, and natural style for the wedding.

The Proposal

He invited me on an excursion to the beach in a charming town known as Piran, which is located in Slovenia. I was able to tell something was going on because the man was extremely nervous, and he was reluctant to divulge any details. He was wearing the “look”.

Over a long period, we strolled around talking about all things. After some time, I’d been able to forget that there was something unusual going on. We reached the tiny church in Piran. We walked up to the summit of the hill, which is where the temple of Piran is situated. The view was stunning over the city and sea.

For a more spectacular view from the top place possible, we went up to the highest point of the bell. I was gazing at the stunning views, breathing in the sea air, taking in the scenery, and the moment came. It was extremely emotional and memorable. I felt as if I had lost my footing.

Favorite Moments

The day was filled with positive energy. My favorite moment was when I realized that everyone was having fun at the day and that with a little affection, we could create a truly memorable day.

Another of my favorite moments was the first glimpse we took. It’s incredible to feel something amazing and beautiful at the same at the same time.
