A Poolside Portugal Destination Wedding With Chinese Traditions

We thought we’d share this hot summer wedding from Algarve, Portugal, with the increasing number of weddings at the pool.

In the past few weeks, we posted an elegant palace wedding with Portugal’s wedding photographer and, with our adoration (and most likely yours as well!) of Anastasia’s gorgeous photos, We were unable to resist sharing Carol and Sultan’s intimate poolside wedding that featured the traditional Chinese tea ceremony with stunning greenery and an outdoor ceremony.

To keep the wedding private, The couple located the perfect venue for their wedding, Casa Rupi (available for reservation through Airbnb at no cost!), to ensure that no other guests from the hotel will be influencing the event. Are you in love with this idea? We’ve compiled a list of stunning private Airbnb homes and villas to rent to host your wedding.

The Proposal

We decided to enjoy an enjoyable dinner at the riverside to mark an exciting news event and then take a sunset stroll in Richmond Park (where we often walked to when we first began our relationship). As we sat admiring the sunset, the Sultan proposed!

The Wedding Style

We wanted a private wedding outside of the country to enjoy it outdoors. We tried to keep it traditional but straightforward, with plenty of nature in the area. Our color scheme included white, green (nature) with hints of gold and a light grey. We chose a Private Villa as we did not want to share the space with weddings and guests simultaneously; that is typically the situation at weddings that are destinations at larger hotels.

The Dress & Attire

Wedding dresses are “light” as the wedding took place in August in Portugal, where temperatures can be as high as 40 degrees Celsius! I wanted a fishtail-style dress that had a lace-like bodice and no back. The bridesmaids wore the identical Vera Wang chiffon one-shouldered grey dress that matched the light and exotic theme.

The groom wore an emerald blazer and stone linen and a navy blue suit, and the groomsmen donned royal blue blazers with stone Chinos. We didn’t want an all-black suit because it would likely be hot, so we wanted it not to feel formal. We wanted it to feel at ease as it was our closest and most beloved.

To attend the Chinese tea celebration, I donned my sibling and borrowed an old-fashioned Chinese red dress. It was something borrowed! The groom was wearing a light grey suit.

Favorite Moments

We all believe that our favorite aspect of our wedding ceremony was. Sultan saw me as I walked down the aisle in my white gown and as the vows were exchanged. The vows were personal and meaningful, and we’re grateful to write the vows we made ourselves.

The party afterward was also delightful, and we were able to have a good time and dance the night away!
