Adventurous Rainy Wedding In Iceland (With Waterfalls!)

You travel across the globe with your dress with your best gals and your beloved to the wedding destination you’ve always wanted. You start the ceremony, and then it begins falling in force with all the waterfalls that surround you. This is a common scenario in Iceland, and that spontaneous display of nature is precisely the reason why the Icelandic destination wedding is unique.

Chelsey and Alex required a wild wedding fitting for an exciting proposal, and they came across the perfect solution in Iceland. Volcanos with waterfalls, stunning cliffs, glaciers, natural springs, vast pastoral plains, and magnificent horses. Iceland offers everything you need for the adventurous couple.

Dressed in one of our top designers, Berta, Chelsey has adapted to the torrential downpour by putting together a simple fishtail braid (we’re extremely impressed by her perfect braid!) and, as a result, became more ethereal and a Scandinavian bridal princess.

Our Love Story

Our engagement was epic! After we had a long journey across Indonesia in August of 2015, Alex was determined to get the ball rolling for a proposal. This was our first long trip as a couple, and although it certainly was difficult at times (delays because of volcanoes, “Bali Belly” food poisoning, and turbulent boat cruises), It made us feel so much closer.

At Christmas, Alex wanted me to be flexible with my schedule for the next Saturday. I was surprised to learn that Alex had planned a helicopter tour of the sunset throughout our city in Los Angeles!

Our flight took us to Bel Air, Santa Monica, and Hollywood. Following our flight over Dodger Stadium, we landed on the top of one of the towers. I was perplexed but accepted it as a normal procedure. After admiring the stunning skyline as it was setting, I walked around to find a bar with drinks. I brought two drinks, and we sat near the backyard, watching the remainder of the sunset. Alex offered me the most adoring hug of his life, telling me that the past five years had been the most rewarding in his life, and Alex was now ready to tackle the next chapter of his life as a group.

Then, at that moment, he sat down on one knee and requested that I marry him. It was utterly perfect; it made me utterly stunned. We ended the evening in one of our most loved eateries located in Beverly Hills. I couldn’t ask for a better deal that did more than I could have imagined!

The Wedding Destination

We had a clear idea of whether we would like to hold a destination wedding because it would enable us to increase spending by creating a smaller crowd of family and friends. The idea of a location wedding also enticed us due to the fact that it would require our hardworking guests to go on a trip. We were hoping for our ceremony to be a long-lasting event, not one day.

A common question we received was how we chose a location that resembles Iceland. Our answer? “Why not!” Iceland is among the most beautiful nations on Earth. We thought that having the wedding in Iceland would give our guests the chance to witness and experience many things that they might not be able to do in other places. We were also amazed by the uniqueness of Iceland, especially when you consider that many destinations for weddings have more tropical and warmer areas.

We wanted to make use of the stunning scenery and vibrant color palette Iceland offers, so we kept our wedding design and color palette as pure and minimalist as we could but still retained some romance. We were enthralled by the idea of a white bouquet with greenery as well as coppery accents.

The Attire

Gray is one of our top colors, so we decided to add gray to the outfits such as bridal gowns and shawls, groomsman and groomsmen ties, as well as the pocket square of Alex.

Wedding guests were urged to dress in appropriate attire for all weather conditions as nothing is impossible in Iceland since it rained for 20 minutes we were in the ceremony!

I was thrilled to find the Berta dress in a boutique located in Southern California. I had tried about 20 dresses when I came across it. The sample fit like a glove, and I decided to buy it. The detachable train? To die for! There are no dresses that can match the quality and artistry in my Berta.

Favorite Moments

There were a lot of memorable memories from the day of our wedding. The ceremony was incredible and absolutely stunning and incredibly intimate to be able to share a very profound moments of our lives in the rain with our loved ones and family members.

The spots we planned on our itinerary were breathtaking, and our top pick was the mountaintop that overlooks the ocean (what an amazing feeling to look at the cliff from the sea). We still think about the incredible toasts and speeches given by family members during dinner…so lots of tears of joy and laughter, even from non-criers!

Another of our most memorable moments was following the hot spring, around 2 a.m. We went back to our rooms to find Alex opening his present of an assemblage video that included our entire family and friends sharing wedding advice and sharing their most memorable memories of us. When we finished watching it, we sat back and watched the sun rise behind one of Iceland’s numerous volcanoes. It was the perfect way to end a memorable day.
