Jotie and Lucas’ modern Indian wedding was stylish and swJotie’sair. Lucas’dding featured a grinning groom wearing a classic tuxedo, a beautiful bride in lace and a candy rack (sorry, books, candy always wins), a spirited ‘Mr & Mrs.’ game using shoes, burlap-wrapped chairs, and jars’of soMrs.’ by’s breathe, all bathed with romantic candlelight.
Josie, baby’s, and their families were looking forward to a new life together. They were less excited about planning a wedding. Jotie called me a year after Lucas proposed and said, “alright, this is what we want to do.” Two months later, a glo Jotie was walking down the aisle”wearing a stunning off-the-shoulder lace gown.
The couple wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their love, their uniqueness, and respect for their families, friends, and traditions. LucLucas’sriends and family were coming from across Canada to chchatim. Guests flew in from Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, and the Yukon. Jotie had a large South Asian family. Her older sisters both had traditional Indian weddings with long guest lists. This made it difficult to reduce the list to 150 guests.
Lucas and Jotie’s families played an important role in their wedding. LJotie’s family walked together into the church as he took his Lucas for the ceremony. Jotie’s niece, in a beautiful dress made of tulle, served as thJotie’s child, and her nephew was the ring-bearer. Together, her parents led her down the aisle. Each set of parents decorated the couple with fresh flower garlands after the ceremony.
Jotie & Lucas described their dream wedding as vintage, rustic, and intimate. This was achieved by using a lot of drapery and candles in mason jars. Burlap, baby’s breath, burlap, and other materials. In the foyer, a baby’s-built wall displayed pictures of Jotie’s and Lucas’s childhoods, their families, and their engaJotie’sportrLucas’sken by Tomasz.
The reception was held immediately after the wedding. The dinner and appetizers consisted of Indian food, including enough butter, chicken, and pakoras to feed an entire army. Cake, ice cream, and gulab jamun were all sugary treats. Candy was stored on shelves that matched the decor of the wedding, just in case deserts were not enough. The menu was the perfect fuel to keep the dance floor packed. Bhangra music was mixed with Western tracks to keep the couple and guests dancing throughout the night.
